Flowchart

Our primary objectives for the Diplomacy Lab were improving efficiency and accuracy in the United States State Department’s watch office. They expressed a critical need to increase the speed at which they could appropriately respond to events occurring on the international stage. To achieve this, our team has created both an automated and static flowchart, as well as two interactive checklists that generate comprehensive reliability scores. These tools are geared towards both informal sources (such as tweets) and formal sources (such as media articles), designed to promptly assess the credibility of breaking news. The two automated checklists, one for informal and one for formal sources, generate a comprehensive score based on subcategories including access, virality, political bias, journalistic integrity, and verifiability. Results are interpreted per subcategory to provide the State Department with an instant well rounded reliability assessment.
